JOSÉ
CASTRO: BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
José Castro was born in Bethesda, Maryland, of Puerto
Rican parents. After doing a series of paintings of dune-buggies at seven
years of age, art became his vocation. He studied at The Art Institute
of Pittsburg, and later at the Corcoran School of Arts, where he graduated
with a BFA in Photography. After working as a freelance photographer,
José attended the Tyler School of Art, where he received an MFA
in Printmaking. José considers himself a post-modern jíbaro.
He has been teaching art and photography for the last ten years, and has
lived and traveled in various parts of the United States, as well as in
Puerto Rico. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions within
the Washington, DC area, as well as in Philadelphia, Texas, and Puerto
Rico. José lives and works in Washington, DC. |
